Double Dutch Braids
Style: The Double Dutch Braids by Sarah Potempa
Description: This style features braids with pigtails that resemble floating French braids.
Skills level intermediate
Make the style:
- Begin by creating a central portion. Potempa suggests drawing an imaginary line from the nose upwards to figure out where the middle lies.
- Apply a balm for hair braiding (such as the Beachwaver variant) over loose hair strands to add texture and hold.
- Separate the loose hair into three equal sections. The hair is braided using the left side under the middle and the left under the middle. Add hair from the bottom as you move. (This can be compared to the French braid, however instead of weaving across your middle area, instead, you weave underneath it.) Attach it using an elastic on the end (Potempa prefers clear elastics).
- Repeat the Dutch braiding process on the opposite side.
Pom-Pom Ropes
This is the style used: Pom-Pom Ropes by Ona Diaz-Santin
Description: Get Instagram-ready by wearing two ponytails with bubbles and elastics that are vibrant.
"Pom-Pom ropes are easy and fun, not to mention they give your child the freedom to get creative with colors, ribbons, rubber bands, and other kinds of embellishments," Diaz-Santin says. Diaz-Santin.
Make the style:
- Begin with letting the child select their accessories, be they ribbons or colorful rubber bands.
- Cut in the middle of the head.
- On the other side, you can cut an inch-long section, and secure it with an elastic.
- Repeat this process for the sides, adding smaller pieces of hair (like you would in braids) and then securing the sections throughout the process.
- Continue until the hair ends by adding elastics every 1 to 2 inches, based on the length of the hair.
- Repeat with the opposite side.
Pulled Back Headband
The Double look pony with headbands by Laura Polko
Description: For this 'do you'll require a charming headband, which sits on top of two ponytails that are half-up and a low ponytail.
"This look just gets cuter with the more pigtails that you make, so if your kid has the patience, you can make as many mini pigtails connecting as you'd like!" Polka adds. "But this look is a team effort, and even with just two pigtails, it's adorable."
Make the style:
- Make use of a detangler (Polko prefers his BabyBum Detangler) generously to damp hair, then dry.
- Split hair in the middle, and then cut it off.
- Make high half-ponytails on each side of the middle. Make sure to brush tight and secure it with the elastic (Polko suggests clear elastics such as the ones below).
- Gather the remaining hair on either side of the ponytail and put it into another ponytail, incorporating the hair that was in the earlier ponytail, the original.
- Complete the look by adding a pompom to your headband (or an alternative headband that is festive that you prefer).
